Hybrid cycling app
Design a stand-out fitness tracking app that focuses on cycling as a sport. A brand choice to affiliate with and positions itself as a web application and not native to any platform but use components and capabilities of the device to assist functionality. The application should differentiate itself and stands out from the large variety of existing apps of it's kind. This key differentiator must be highlighted as part of the deliverable.
Gamification + Responsive website
Select a website that needs more visitors or has too little content interaction and create a space of better interaction by using game mechanics. Make the process interesting and fun for user interaction. The game mechanics needs to be engaging and help convey they content more successfully while still having a strong focus on the content. The process can also motivate user to visit again and create user retention.
Smart space
A very futuristic and technology savvy client has requested a room in his house be converted to a smart space. The client gave the choice of kitchen, bedroom, entertainment area or bathroom. No limitations to what can be done. The client has asked that available technology is used, ready to be implementable such as sensors (Phillips and Cisco systems, for example) to eliminate longer timelines.
Digital marketing campaign
Leveraging off of already created and supplied assets and campaign mechanics, conceptualise an in-store activation which is supported by an online component (website or app) as well as online media via banners for advertising. Social media is also a focal point and how user can engage with the brand. The client has requested that you come up with a suitable approach and idea, to create a presence and engagement of their product aswell.
Corporate gift
Giving back to the client is a clever marketing and is so called 'generous branding'. A selected company needs to be researched and understood. The corporate gift needs to be a medical kit for automotive insurance on new vehicles valued upwards of R500 000. Target market research should be executed for the extremely demanding clients. It is a promotional item and should convey the company qualities. Combination of materials should be considered along with clever detailing.
Brand experience space
Design proposal for a 3-D brand experience space to promote a selected brand. Brand research is crucial to understand values and visual aesthetics. The design should fit within the circulation routes and should consider ease of construction and repeatability. The design should communicate the brand. Consider off site manufacturing and assembly on site, thus size is important. The structure should be self supporting and modularity is also of relevance to the design for transportation.
Concept store
The concept store is a follow-up of the experience space and should be the same brand. The requirement is a concept store that is significantly new without losing what the brand stands for already. The retail unit dimensions are given and should be adhered to with the choice of either a single or double unit. 'Roll-out' should be considered to apply design to various locations. The pop-out line is at maximum 30% up to 1000mm. A schedule of accommodation should be delivered.
Flacon design
The perfume bottle design needs to incorporate enough references to communicate the particular brand and also need to be differentiated from other similar products. The brand given is Dolce & Gabbana which gives way to a high end product. Two bottles need to be done for both men and woman. The design will include the cap, atomizer and dispenser. The product range needs to appeal to the brand's target market and needs to identify with their visual philosophy and vision.
USB design
Design and develop the visual language for 2 different USB flash drives. Aggression and peacefulness are the distinguishing visual characteristics. The attributes must be immediately apparent whilst still working as a set. More creative design freedom while manipulating the elements of form namely: balance, proportion, texture, surface, repetition, pattern, finish and materials. The visual language should not be too literal but rather a clear stylised representation.
Chair design
The designing requirement is a casual chair suitable for domestic use. The chair must follow a South African vernacular or sense of style. The material used has to either MDF (medium-density fibreboard) or plywood. Manufacturing processes should include laser cutting or CNC routing. Upholstered element may be introduced in the design. Mechanical fasteners should be used sparingly and only if necessary. A quarter scale model has to carry a quarter of the weight. The chair should be able to sustain 100kg.
Tap design
The design should specifically include a mixer cartridge and reverse engineering should be done to understand the cartridge. The design should express a communal design identity, be innovative, creative and considered. Other aspects that should be taken into account is the consumer convenience, economic aspects, hygiene, water saving and public bathroom challenges. Critical attention required on ergonomics, manufacturability, design identity and possible use of new technology.
Packaging design
Develop conceptual design ideas for packaging soy sauce. Find a new and exciting form to make the package attention grabbing. The graphics or colour of the package is irrelevant for now, the main task is the actual outer box design. Reverse engineer the soy sauce bottles to get accurate size and dimensions. First packaging and peripherals needs to surround and secure bottle. Second a visible window clearly describing contents. Lastly packaging combined with vacuum formed surround.
Flat pack furniture
Design a lamp table using flat pack techniques. Factor in usage and content for context. It is a domestic bedroom so lamp, books, magazines, devices, stereo and plug points. The specific material for manufacturing in plywood and the manufacturing process is either laser or CNC cutting. Single set of components can be introduced to act as fasteners should it be necessary. A clear set of assembly instructions needs to be made for the end user.
