Project overview

Data driven ratings for hospitals allows member to make more informed decisions about where they seek health care. The ratings also offer care teams at hospitals the opportunity for improvement. Care ratings are based on measures of the hospital’s experience, readmission, mortality and efficiency data. This information needs to be displayed in a more sensitive manner to ensure the hospital’s reputation is not adversely affected. The ratings structure itself also went through various iterations to ensure a fair and accurate rating based on the numerous variables between public and private hospitals before design was started. Gathering data to create the rating system had substantial delay and we are only able to show ratings for the previous year.

Where it started

An additional feature to the website for Discovery members to have access to information and ratings of hospitals in order to make informed decisions.Variations to the scoring indicators depending on what data format is used. I tried a star rating system and number based system which was turned down by hospital boards.

A more simplified solution to score as ‘less than expected’, ‘as expected’ and ‘better than expected’ created
including ‘insufficient data’ for data that is incomplete.

What was wrong

Using an existing design library that is old and outdated. A newer library was in very early stages of being built but was not a dedicated focus and was led by a different team, making component usage difficult and at risk of being potentially unaligned.

Chanllenges faced

Copy writing was crucial to be refined and extremely specific with a substantial amount of changes that needed to be reflected on the page as the Figma prototype was used to showcase to stakeholders.

Showing information in a more sensitive manner in order to create a less harmful outcome and potentially adversely affect hospital reputation.

Design for the final vision but allowing sections on the design to be missing until all data streams become available.

Deliver

A hospital information page that showcases their ‘less than expected’, ‘as expected’ and ‘better than expected’ rating along with additional service offerings.

Detailed breakdown of how information is gathered and how ratings are calculated.

Non specific data to excluded showing exact amounts but rather the three categories ‘less than expected’, ‘as expected’ and ‘better than expected’.

Alignment with web design team to ensure UI is aligned and what they are in progress with regarding a new design system.
