Project overview

Creating an application to house all travel related capabilities from flights, public transport and rental, accommodation, dining and shop directory into one space. A late addition to create what was referred to as a ‘land’ based version or section of the application was requested during the phase that I was assigned to this project. Concept was only in a wireframe style where no UI design was actually required, I was only part of the project in it’s wireframe and conceptual phase. Varying designers worked individually on the wireframes and architecture in small incremental phases.

Looking at an administrative side of the ‘airport’ app to help managers better track and assign tasks to employees across the large square footage of an airport for general maintenance.

An extension of the app was requested to create a ‘land’ version encompassing varying capabilities.

The ‘airport’ and ‘land’ based side needed to be a switch so that those two version of the application did not mix. Their administrative version also differed from one another and focused on completely different capabilities. A default architecture layout allowed for features to be slotted into place as requested.

Challenges faced

Briefs were a little vague thus conceptualising was very broad in terms of feature potential and capabilities. Client expectations vs brief clarification did not align and was difficult to manage.

The ‘land’ based side created an extremely broad application along with the ‘airport’ side.

Competitor samples given in order to be duplicated exactly just in the app style.

Small incremental phases designers were able to work on the wireframe and architecture was challenging to get a sense of intention and planned direction.
